{"id":43801,"date":"2018-01-23T14:19:24","date_gmt":"2018-01-23T19:19:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/huntsville.dopperonline.ca\/?p=43801"},"modified":"2018-01-23T14:19:24","modified_gmt":"2018-01-23T19:19:24","slug":"corner-chaffey-manominee-getting-makeover","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/corner-chaffey-manominee-getting-makeover\/","title":{"rendered":"Corner of Chaffey and Manominee getting a makeover"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you\u2019re wondering about all the pylons on the corner of Manominee and Chaffey streets, they\u2019re not the result of a <a href=\"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/chaffey-cann-streets-closed-due-flooding\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">fire hydrant that broke in December<\/span><\/a>; it&#8217;s work the Town is doing in conjunction with the District of Muskoka to address safety issues along that stretch.<\/p>\n<p>Huntsville Councillor Brian Thompson, who also sits on the District public works committee, told his fellow councillors at their January 22 meeting that the work is expected to cost about $385,000 with the Town pitching in roughly $105,000.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the salient point is the Town and District are combining on this (project) and I really want to thank Steve Hernen (Director of Operations and Protective Services) for his work in getting this started. This has been a burr in my saddle for a number of years. The way (the retaining wall) was leaning, it was actually dangerous,\u201d said Thompson.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"modern-quote full\"><p>Not only was it unpleasant to look at, but it was actually probably dangerous and I can just envision somebody walking by, pushing their perambulator with a child in it, and the thing falling down or something \u2014 I think a horror story waiting to happen. <cite>Huntsville Councillor Brian Thompson<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Thompson said whenever the issue was raised it became a problem. \u201cIt was just this push-back all the time&#8230; who is responsible for it, was it the Town or was it the District? And it was the Town\u2019s responsibility for the sidewalks and the District\u2019s responsible for the road, so it was a push-back,\u201d he said, thanking Hernen for breaking the impasse and working with the District to address the issue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re getting the job done.
