In three games over four nights last weekend, the Junior C Otters came away with two wins, a loss, and plenty of good will.<\/p>\n

First they met the Schomberg Cougars on Thursday, December 14. \u201cIt was a penalty filled game \u2013 it was heated on both sides and our power play bailed us out for the victory 3-2,\u201d said Coach Marc Gagnon.<\/p>\n

They followed that win with a second against the Orillia Terriers at home on Friday, December 15. The Terriers got just one goal past the Otters goalie while the home team dumped in a whopping eight goals.<\/p>\n

<\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n

Huntsville took the lead right out of the gate with four goals in the first period, two by #9 Jack Armstrong and singles by #6 Michael Kruger and #8 Tye Sterne.<\/p>\n

The Otters have been working well together to keep control of the puck and to set up plays, which earned them 17 shots on the Terriers net versus Orillia’s six.<\/p>\n

Huntsville’s success continued in the second with two more goals by #10 Cody Jones and #21 Glen Gagnon to bring the scoreboard to 6-1. The Otters fans were elated, some dancing with Otters\u2019 mascot, Oscar, as they cheered.<\/p>\n

Ar second intermission, the team’s annual Teddy Bear Toss delighted the crowd. Thank you to all of the supporters of this event and to players from the Huntsville Girls Hockey Association who collected the teddy bears during the flood time. Otters players delivered the toys to the Moose FM stuff-a-truck event, in support of The Table Soup Kitchen Foundation on Sunday, December 17.<\/p>\n

In the third period, both teams incurred penalties, nine offences for each team to be exact. Coach Gagnon said that the game was another heated affair, with roughing and fights leading to players being kicked off the ice including Otters goalie #31 Mitchell Jones.<\/p>\n

On why he left his crease, Jones said that his brother Spencer Jones #2 AP “made what looked to be a clean check when two guys jumped him and he\u2019s 16 so I didn\u2019t think it was very fair that 20-year-olds were going after him.”<\/p>\n

The younger Jones was called up from the Predators organization to play with the Otters. The coaches both agree that Jones plays very well for the team at the back end. They are very impressed with his talent and skill level but mostly with his patience and calmness.<\/p>\n

The highlight of the night was Cody Jones #10 earning himself a hat trick by scoring two additional goals in the third period. That wrapped up the game with an Otters-heavy score of 8-1. The stars of the game were all Huntsville players: first star Cody Jones, second star Nathan Delarosbil and third star Jack Armstrong.<\/p>\n

Sunday\u2019s home game against Alliston had the Otters bench short due to suspensions.<\/p>\n

\u201cRegardless of a full bench or not, the team is passionate and wants to continue to win and better itself,” said Coach Gagnon. The Otters managed to hold the Hornets off during the first period but fell short in the second and third. \u201cOur power play and penalty kill is doing well and that makes a big difference. Our power play was 3-12 while our penalty killed 12 of 13 penalties.”<\/p>\n

\u201cOverall, I’m very happy with the direction this team is heading. With four wins in our last five games, we\u2019re heading in the right direction at the right time of year,” added Coach Brent Tomlinson. “I’m excited to watch this team as we head down the stretch.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Otters’ next home game is tonight, December 22, against the Schomberg Cougars. Come cheer on your home town team! The puck drops at 8:00 p.m. (UPDATE: Tonight’s game has been cancelled due to deteriorating weather conditions in the south.)<\/p>\n
