{"id":41640,"date":"2017-12-16T14:28:25","date_gmt":"2017-12-16T19:28:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/huntsville.dopperonline.ca\/?p=41640"},"modified":"2017-12-16T14:28:25","modified_gmt":"2017-12-16T19:28:25","slug":"mahc-taking-precautions-influenza","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/mahc-taking-precautions-influenza\/","title":{"rendered":"MAHC taking precautions against influenza"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) is ramping up precautions to reduce the risk of exposure to the flu at the hospitals.<\/p>\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n<p>MAHC is monitoring influenza levels in the community and is screening patients for flu-like symptoms both at Emergency Department triage and at Patient Registration. Anyone experiencing a sudden onset of fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, muscle and joint pain, and\/or headache, must put on a mask. While these measures are in place for patients, visitors to the hospital come and go freely.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the holidays just around the corner, we want to keep our communities and our patients safe,\u201d says Natalie Bubela, Chief Executive Officer. \u201cIf you\u2019re visiting a friend or family member, it\u2019s important to be a good visitor and model the basic principles of infection prevention, especially during flu season. If you have flu-like symptoms or generally are feeling unwell, it is best that you stay home, get plenty of rest and drink lots of clear fluids until you are feeling better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To prevent spreading viruses to others, clean your hands often with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub \u2013 especially before entering and after exiting a hospital room. Sneeze and cough into your elbow, and avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKeeping your loved ones as healthy as possible during their hospital stay is a priority,\u201d says Bubela. \u201cOne way we can all protect each other is by getting the flu shot. It\u2019s the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones and helps to minimize the severity of the illness.
