RESULTS<\/h5>\n

Monday, March 19<\/strong><\/p>\n

The penultimate week of the regular season featured a pair of hard fought matches. In the early game, Orange once again overcame several inexplicable decisions by the should-already-be-retired Constantin to emerge victorious 14-11 over the Blues.<\/p>\n

Orange received several timely goals from youngster Doug Allen and captain Chris Occhiuzzi to twice fight back from two-goal deficits in the match. Steve Fairhall and Leigh Cameron also came up big for Orange in the win. The Blues came out ready to impress with Carlos Burmeister and Chuck Lefebvre providing skilled plays and intensity. Unfortunately, a few posts and near misses were their undoing.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe overall quality and parity of the teams cannot be measured in mere wins or losses,\u201d says Occhiuzzi. \u201cOur league features strength top to bottom. Once we make it past the regular season, it\u2019s all up for grabs.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the late match, Green served Purple notice that the league won\u2019t be a cakewalk for the team at the top of the table. A back-and-forth affair saw Purple eke out a 9-8 victory, overcoming the influx of youth with Cam Anderson (lower body) and Caleb Grim (emotional issues) returning from the injury list.<\/p>\n

Green captain Dave Caplan and the team\u2019s emotional engine Brandon Occhiuzzi were pleased with the effort put forth despite the loss.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we\u2019re healthy we can beat anyone,\u201d says Brandon. \u201cAs long as we can put out a full team, we\u2019ll be tough for anyone to beat.\u201d<\/p>\n

Next week will be the last week of the regular season, followed by the Easter Break before the postseason begins.<\/p>\n

On Monday, March 26, Purple takes on Orange at 8 p.m., while Green plays Blue at 9 p.m.<\/p>\n

Monday, February 19<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Huntsville Indoor Soccer League\u2019s Family Day break couldn\u2019t have come at a better time for both the Mean Green Machine and Big Bad Blues. Each team has been struggling for points despite positive play on most nights. On Feb. 12, Mean Green lost 13-3 to Crushed Grapes while the Blues were topped 11-7 by Orange Crush.<\/p>\n

Perhaps the break will serve as a time to refocus and re-energize as the home stretch of the season begins.<\/p>\n

With no games played on Feb. 19, it means the two teams run of negative results gets a reprieve until Feb. 26 when they take on each other. Barring the first draw of the season in the League for any team, either the Green or the Blues will leave happy.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile the top two teams in the league will play on the same night when Crushed Grapes takes on Orange Crush. Orange trails Grapes by just one win in the standings.<\/p>\n

Crushed Grapes star Paul Borbeau is already pumped for this match after suffering an 11-2 defeat to Orange the last time they played.<\/p>\n

\u201cI won\u2019t lie: this one has extra meaning for us,\u201d says Borbeau. \u201cWe\u2019re not going to let them do that to us again. I\u2019m not going to go as far as guaranteeing a win, but I will say it won\u2019t be as lopsided a score as last time out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Orange veteran Steve Fairhall is also looking forward to the coming match. The team is hoping playmaker Ted Maduri will return after a month off to recuperate from an undisclosed lower body injury.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know every team in the league is solid,\u201d says Fairhall. \u201cBut, we know if we play our game, stay within ourselves and not try to do too much, we can and have defeated everyone. The only team which can beat Orange is Orange.\u201d<\/p>\n

Monday, February 5<\/strong><\/p>\n

The return of Nick Laning wasn\u2019t enough for the Mean Green Machine against the red-hot Orange team in Huntsville Indoor Soccer League action on February 5. Mean Green fell 13-10 in a game which they had fought back from a four-goal deficit to take a one-goal lead with only 7 minutes to play. Orange overcame several misguided plays by aging superstar Constantine \u2013 who still can produce magic despite his advance years \u2013 and managed to eke out the victory.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know why he does what he does,\u201d says Orange captain Chris Occhiuzzi, when asked about Constantine\u2019s multitude of turnovers this season. \u201cHe\u2019s not a kid anymore. He really needs to play within himself. When he does, he\u2019s fabulous. When he doesn\u2019t \u2026 well, it\u2019s just not good.”<\/p>\n

The other match of the night saw Crushed Grapes take out their frustrations from last week\u2019s big loss on Big Bad Blues. Crushed Grapes won 9-5 over the Blues, who were playing without a full bench. Crushed Grapes veteran star Melanie Mercier was humble after the victory.
\n\u201cIt was a really good game,\u201d she says. \u201cThey were a tough team to beat, but we put the right effort in to get the job done. We definitely needed this after a big loss last week to Orange.\u201d<\/p>\n

Monday, January 29<\/strong><\/p>\n

Two Huntsville Indoor Soccer League teams were forced to play without subs on Jan. 29 due to a variety of health-related issues. While Mean Green Machine put up a strong fight against Big Bad Blues, they eventually fell 12-8. Mean Green Captain Dave Caplan, himself nursing a hamstring injury, made several strong saves in goal and the rest of the team put their best foot forward throughout the game. However, the Blues \u2013 who were missing only one player \u2013 were able to sub quickly and the constant flow of fresh bodies was the key to their victory. The Blues snapped a three-game losing streak in the process. Captain Chuck Lefebvre was happy after the win: \u201cit was a good game \u2026 It felt like forever since we won a game.\u201d<\/p>\n

The other team to play without any subs was Clockwork Orange (formerly known as Orange Crush). The Orange team\u2019s fearsome foursome of Captain Chris Occhiuzzi, veteran Steve Fairhall, newcomer Doug Allan and all-around good guy Leigh Cameron defeated league leaders Crushed Grapes 11-2. While Crushed Grapes fielded a full line-up, Clockwork Orange played out a tactically sound strategy to a tee. Orange played a counterattacking style, absorbing long periods of pressure, blocking as many shots as possible and then breaking for quick strikes against Crushed Grapes. The men and women in purple had many chances to score but it just wasn\u2019t their night. Crushed Grapes Captain Graham Thompson was thoughtful in defeat: \u201csometimes games like this happen. The effort was there, we just couldn\u2019t score.\u201d<\/p>\n

Monday, January 15<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Huntsville Indoor Soccer League action was fast and furious on January 15 at Huntsville High School. In the early match, Orange Crush made it two wins in a row by defeating Big Bad Blues 10-6. The score doesn\u2019t reflect a truly back-and-forth affair which saw the Blues hit the post on three occasions. In the later match, Crushed Grapes defeated Mean Green Machine 11-6. Crushed Grapes was able to take advantage of short-handed Mean Green side playing without any subs. Crushed Grapes remains in first place, followed by Mean Green Machine with Orange Crush hot on their tales. Big Bad Blues has been a bit unlucky in some of their matches and has work to do to catch up. Next week\u2019s games on Monday, January 22 features Big Bad Blues against Mean Green Machine at 8 p.m. followed by Orange Crush taking on Crushed Grapes at 9 p.m.<\/p>\n

Monday, January 8<\/strong><\/p>\n

After a lengthy break for the holiday season, the Huntsville Indoor Soccer League kicked off again on Monday, January 8 at Huntsville High School. Two thrilling back-and-forth affairs took place. In the first match, Orange Crush was able to out-tactic Mean Green Machine en route to a 6-4 victory. Orange Crush received great play throughout from their whole team, subbing quickly and finishing their chances. Mean Green Machine justifiably feels a little unlucky, having hit the post on three occasions. In the other match, Crushed Grapes defeated Big Bad Blues 9-7. Crushed Grapes is now alone in first place, followed by Mean Green Machine, Orange Crush and finally Big Bad Blues. Next week\u2019s games on Monday, January 15 pit Big Bad Blues against Orange Crush at 8 p.m. followed by Mean Green Machine taking on Crushed Grapes at 9 p.m.<\/p>\n

Monday, December 18 <\/strong><\/p>\n

In Huntsville Indoor Soccer League action on Monday, December 18 at Huntsville High School, Mean Green Machine were led by captain Dave Caplan and the defensive giant Brandon Occhiuzzi in a 12-7 victory over Big Bad Blues. Meanwhile in an unusually chippy affair, which was closer than the final score line indicates, Crushed Grapes topped Orange Crush 13-9. Mean Green Machine remains in first place going into the two-week Christmas Break, followed by Crushed Grapes, Orange Crush and Big Bad Blues. League play resumes on Monday, January 8<\/span><\/span> with Mean Green Machine looking to avenge an earlier loss to Orange Crush, while Big Bad Blues will look to knock Crushed Grapes down a peg.<\/p>\n

Monday, December 11<\/strong><\/p>\n

In Huntsville Indoor Soccer League action on Monday, Dec. 11 at Huntsville High School, the Mean Green Machine defeated Crushed Grapes 10-5 and the Big Bad Blues topped the Orange Crush 13-10. The Mean Green Machine took over first place after three weeks of play, while the Blues picked up their first win of the season. The Mean Green Machine and Crushed Grapes each have six points, with Mean Green ahead due to goal differential. Orange Crush and Big Bad Blues each have three points.<\/p>\n
