{"id":40702,"date":"2017-11-28T06:09:15","date_gmt":"2017-11-28T11:09:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/huntsville.dopperonline.ca\/?p=40702"},"modified":"2017-11-28T07:39:24","modified_gmt":"2017-11-28T12:39:24","slug":"council-chooses-3-9-million-bid-waterloo-building-lands","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/council-chooses-3-9-million-bid-waterloo-building-lands\/","title":{"rendered":"Council chooses $3.9 million bid for Waterloo building and lands"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.denovo.ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">De Novo Treatment Centre<\/a><\/span> has emerged as the winning bid for the Waterloo Summit Centre for the Environment at a purchase price of $3,905,000, which includes the building as well as surrounding lands, although it is not clear how much of those lands would be sold with the building.<\/p>\n<p>The municipality issued a Request for Proposal for the Waterloo building, which closed September 28, 2017. It received five bids \u2013 three offers to purchase and two offers to lease. In the end, Huntsville Council emerged from a closed session at its Monday, November 27 meeting to announce the winning bid, which went to De Novo Treatment Centre out of Sundridge. The treatment centre has been looking for a new home in order to expand its facilities.<\/p>\n<p>Following the announcement, Huntsville Mayor Scott Aitchison told Doppler that<br \/>\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/why-i-support-accelerate-muskoka-mayor-scott-aitchison\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">his preference for bidder Accelerate Muskoka, a business incubator, has been no secret.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;So it wasn\u2019t my first choice and I would suspect it probably wasn\u2019t the first choice of every member of council but at the end of the day I think that council voted in favour of the proposal they thought that was the cleanest and the easiest to measure the results. It certainly is the most money in terms of the purchase price but it was easier to define what success is. How many jobs would be created from it,\u201d he said, adding that was tougher to do with some of the other proposals.<\/p>\n<p>Patrick Dillon, Chair of the Board of Directors of De Novo, confirmed that the treatment centre is looking to expand. He said their proposal includes the purchase of the Waterloo building as well as its adjacent 17 acres, lands that he said would be partly used as walking trails. &#8220;Part of recovery is your health and having the opportunity to walk through the beautiful properties that are there certainly would be helpful,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Sundridge operation presently contains 21 beds. \u201cSo if we increase to 30 beds I would say we would probably go to 28 or 30 staff, somewhere in there. It\u2019s not scientific at all but that\u2019s an approximation,\u201d said Dillon, adding that he could not go further into details until discussions with the municipality have taken place and he understands whether the municipality is including all of the requested lands.<\/p>\n<p>More details about De Novo\u2019s proposal as well as the other four bids are expected to be released by the municipality by the end of the week via a press release, indicated Town CAO Denise Corry. There will also be an opportunity for public comment before the deal is brought back to the council table to be finalized on December 19, as part of the municipality&#8217;s disposition process.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Don\u2019t miss out on Doppler!
