{"id":30999,"date":"2017-05-19T05:55:49","date_gmt":"2017-05-19T09:55:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/huntsville.dopperonline.ca\/?p=30999"},"modified":"2017-05-18T09:39:56","modified_gmt":"2017-05-18T13:39:56","slug":"kids-bike-rodeo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/kids-bike-rodeo\/","title":{"rendered":"Third annual Kids&#8217; Bike Rodeo teaches kids how to be safe on the road"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Spring is here and it\u2019s the perfect time of year to ensure your children are ready for a safe summer on their bikes.<\/p>\n<p>Organized by the OPP, the Town\u2019s Sustainable Huntsville program and sport therapy experts The SportLab, <strong>The Kids\u2019 Bike Rodeo<\/strong> is a fun and educational clinic for kids aged 5 to 12 to ensure that they have the equipment and cycling safety skills they need this summer.<\/p>\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe Kids&#8217; Bike Rodeo supports active lifestyles in the future of our community \u2013 our children. Collaboration of private and public sectors allows for a unique learning environment which helps teach children the simple life skill of riding a bike safely,\u201d said Dr. Lowell Greib of The SportLab.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Kids&#8217; Bike Rodeo kicks off Thursday June 1, from 4:30pm \u2013 6:30pm at Huntsville Public School. Advance registration is required (details below).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kids make their way in groups of six through a variety of stations designed to improve their cycling knowledge and skills, including helmet and bike safety checks, recognizing road signs, learning cycling hand signals, a mock intersection, and an agility course.<\/p>\n<p>The agility course is a group favourite, with cyclists riding as slow as they can while maneuvering through pylons and doing shoulder checks to identify images held up by volunteers.<\/p>\n<p>The entire rotation will take approximately about 30 minutes. Young cyclists then receive a delicious snack, a completed checklist, certificate and some bike goodies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Kids\u2019 Bike Rodeo is free of charge, but advanced registration is required.
