It was an impressive showing for a small swim club. The Muskoka Aquatic Club (MUSAC) competed at the 2017 McDonald’s Canadian Record Challenge meet in Owen Sound from April 7-9. The 46 swimmers, some of whom were competing for the very first time outside of their home club pool, captured an astounding 117 medals – 56 golds, 27 silvers and 34 bronze and enough points to earn them first place among the 11 clubs competing. Great effort, swimmers!<\/p>\n
In addition to the medals, the weekend included many personal bests and club records broken. There were young swimmers completing races for the very first time along with new qualifying times for future higher level meets. Every swimmer should be very proud of their performance.<\/p>\n
Here are few notable highlights from the Owen Sound Classic:<\/p>\n
Hayley Oke, nine years old, competing in the 10 and under age group, won three gold, two silver and four regional qualifying times. She was part of a relay team that also included Mary Jibb, Grace Thomas and Georgina Henderson – together they won their 4×50 Freestyle Relay and earned a silver in their 4×50 Medley.<\/p>\n
Neil Duncan, 10 years old, had 100 per cent best times, and earned three gold, two silver and one bronze medal<\/p>\n
Ben Guerriero, 11 years old, had 100 per cent best times, and earned two gold and four silver medals<\/p>\n
Mary Jibb, 10 years old, earned two gold, three silver, and two bronze medals<\/p>\n
Ally Goldring, 14 years old, earned six gold medals and broke the 1989 club record in the 200 IM swim which was previously held by Assistant Coach Bev Wicks. Amazing!<\/p>\n
Mark Cox, 14 years old, set three club records and eared six gold medals<\/p>\n
Kellan Shaw, nine years old, had 100 personal best times and earned six gold medals<\/p>\n
