The Town of Huntsville’s Small Community Grant program helps organizations offset the costs of their programs, activities and services – ones that in some way improve the quality of life for Huntsville residents. Once per year, community groups can apply for up to $1,000 in funding from the $5,000 program for initiatives related to arts, culture, the environment, heritage, recreation, and social services and health.<\/p>\n

At the Economic Development Committee meeting on March 30, Scott Ovell, Community Development Officer for the Town of Huntsville, presented the organizations that had requested funding for 2017 and the recommended grant amounts each would receive if approved by council.<\/p>\n

Eight groups requested a total of $10,421.99:<\/p>\n

Organizations can receive funding no more than three times in a five-year period and are required to submit a final report and receipts.<\/p>\n

Applications are assessed based on merit (a solid vision, impact on a specific community, and meets the needs and context of the unity plan, among other things), economic impact, community impact and organizational effectiveness (including a clear mandate, solid leadership, financial accountability and a demonstrated need for the funds).<\/p>\n

The committee approved the recommended funding. It will next go to Council for ratification.<\/p>\n
