{"id":28608,"date":"2017-03-24T05:05:00","date_gmt":"2017-03-24T09:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/huntsville.dopperonline.ca\/?p=28608"},"modified":"2017-03-23T20:06:12","modified_gmt":"2017-03-24T00:06:12","slug":"keep-fire-safety-in-mind-during-earth-hour-on-march-25","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/keep-fire-safety-in-mind-during-earth-hour-on-march-25\/","title":{"rendered":"Keep fire safety in mind during Earth Hour on March 25"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n<p>To prevent property loss and fire-related injuries, the Muskoka Fire Prevention Officers are strongly recommending that people use flashlights, battery-operated lanterns or flameless candles for light, instead of candles, during Earth Hour on March 25, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPreventing fires while participating in this worthy initiative is important,\u201d said Muskoka Lakes FPO Douglas Holland. \u201cIf people do choose to light candles for Earth Hour, they should test all of the smoke alarms in their homes ahead of time to ensure they are working. With an increase in candle use, there is an increased risk of fire\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>If candles must be used, special care should be taken to prevent a fire. Here are some tips:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use sturdy candleholders that won\u2019t tip or burn. Those with glass shades or chimneys are best.<\/li>\n<li>Keep lit candles a safe distance away from anything that can burn.<\/li>\n<li>Keep candles, matches and lighters out of the reach of children.<\/li>\n<li>Always stay in the room where candles are being used. Never leave candles unattended.<\/li>\n<li>Blow all candles out before leaving a room.<\/li>\n<li>Keep candles out of all bedrooms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It\u2019s the law in Ontario to have working smoke alarms on every storey and outside all sleeping areas of the home. Smoke alarms can provide an early warning of fire and a home escape plan will help ensure everyone knows what to do if a fire were to occur.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Don\u2019t miss out on Doppler!
