Enliven, Huntsville’s centre for self-care in support of people diagnosed with cancer and their families, is set to launch its first programs next month.<\/p>\n

<\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n

Created by Allie Chisholm-Smith and Joanne McLean late last year<\/a><\/span>, Enliven now has a board of directors and dedicated volunteers ready to move forward with the project, and it welcomes more to help with fundraising, programs, community engagement, government relations, and more.<\/p>\n

At a volunteer workshop night on February 22, interested volunteers can learn more about Enliven’s programs and can work with committee chairs to co-create their own volunteer experience based on their preferences, skills and passions. If someone is drawn to fundraising, for example, or wants to help but would prefer to do that from home, the group can brainstorm tasks to fit those preferences. The workshop will be held on February 22 from 6:30-8:30pm at the Active Living Centre.<\/p>\n

Although Enliven is still in its early stages, says Chisholm-Smith, they felt it was important to begin offering programs to fill the gap in care in the Huntsville area. Programming will evolve as more people reach out to express what their needs are. Most of the programs are held at Ahimsa on Main Street where Enliven shares space – it doesn’t currently have a bricks-and-mortar facility – and it will use other venues for programs as needed.<\/p>\n

Enliven’s first programs include:<\/p>\n

Coming Home to Myself, One Breath at a Time<\/em>, an introduction to the power of breath to calm in the face of stress, exploring ways that we can learn from and harness the breath to increase a sense of wellbeing. Facilitated by Patricia Savage, R.N. MPS.<\/p>\n

Voices in the Fog\u2026..Guided Conversations<\/em>, helping to launch important conversations around decisions and planning for you and your family as you navigate the cancer diagnosis. Facilitator: Karen Patterson, BA, AccFM(OAFM), CPMed.<\/p>\n

Drumming And Rhythm<\/em> uses the spirit and magic of drumming and rhythm transcends all ages, gender, religions, races, and cultures. Drum circles have the power to heal and empower, to foster unity and community, and to liberate our primal souls! Facilitator: Bazza Barry Hayward.<\/p>\n

Introduction to Restorative Yoga<\/em> for people living with a cancer diagnosis and their caregivers to experience the \u2018relaxation response\u2019, a state within our bodies where our bodies can support and assist healing. Facilitator: Joanne McLean<\/p>\n

What Can I Claim on my Taxes?<\/em> will help curb your stress by finding out what you can deduct in expenses during treatment. Facilitator: Scott Connell<\/p>\n

For those who lost their person, a support group for widows and widowers<\/em>: gather gather with others who have experienced the loss of a spouse in their lives.<\/p>\n

You’ll find more program information and costs at enlivenmuskoka.ca. Scholarships or bursaries may be available to help those feeling financial strain due to a cancer diagnosis.<\/p>\n
