Missing due to injury: Eli McDougall.<\/em><\/p>\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n<p>The Boys U14 Huntsville Hurricanes basketball team participated in the Markham Unionville Tournament on January 20-22, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The Hurricanes first game was played against the Whitby Saints. The boys came out strong leading each quarter in points and winning the game 38-27. It was a great start to the tournament as the players set a lot of groundwork as a team for the rest of the tournament. Honourable mention: Mike Sykes with 16 points and 9 rebounds.<\/p>\n<p>Their second game had the team play against Ottawa. At the half, the boys were down 12-23. Even though they were tired, they fought hard to bring the game back to within three points at the end of the third quarter, with a score of 27-24. The boys worked hard but just couldn\u2019t get close enough to take home the win. The final score was 28-38, with honourable mentions to Riley Knox with 11 points and Jordan Watts with six.<\/p>\n<p>In the third game, Coach Samantha described the game as being against \u201cby far, the most challenging team they had faced in the tournament&#8221;, ETBA \u2013 Peel Elite. The score at the end of the game &#8211; 20-49 &#8211; &#8220;does not even come close to reflect how hard the boys fought till the final buzzer went,&#8221; said Coach Samantha. The Hurricane coach has never been more proud as a coach, she said. The boys stayed composed, worked hard and never gave up. Every team member deserves an honorable mention for playing in the final game.<\/p>\n<p>The Huntsville Hurricanes final game of the weekend was the bronze medal game. The Hurricanes faced the Whitby Saints one last time. The energy in the game was contagious with each player contributing something positive. The boys fought hard to keep the lead throughout the game, and it was a close one near the end but they took home a well-deserved win and the bronze medal. The final score was 38-32, honourable mentions to Mike Sykes with 16 points and Harry Van Kooy with nine.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, the weekend was a success &#8211; the boys came together as a team and learned a lot that will transfer into their future games.
