A well-played season came to an end this week at the GBSSA championships for both of the Hoyas girls\u2019 basketball teams.<\/p>\n

The Huntsville Hoyas Junior and Senior Girls basketball teams had travelled to Almaguin Highlands for successful MPS Championships last Thursday, November 10. Both teams won their semi-final games and secured their spots in the MPS finals against the Parry Sound Panthers where they triumphed to be crowned MPS champions with a score of 52-14 for the Juniors and 48-28 for the Seniors.<\/p>\n

Senior Urvi Patel said the final was rough and tough and the first quarter was close, but the Hoyas picked up their game by the second as they had practiced their offence in their easier-played semi-final game against the Almaguin Highlanders.<\/p>\n

On to the GBSSA championships<\/h6>\n

At the Georgian Bay Secondary Schools Association (GBSSA) championships held on Wednesday, November 16 at Patrick Fogarty Secondary School in Orillia, the Juniors made it to the finals after a win against St. Joseph High School but lost 59-45 in a hard-fought battle against Patrick Fogarty. It wasn\u2019t the result they\u2019d hoped for, but can hold their heads high after playing well all season.<\/p>\n

The Senior girls outscored Patrick Fogarty Secondary School 57-34 in the semi-finals, a meaningful win for the Hoyas \u2013 it was their first win against those opponents in almost four years and they were proud to have beaten their fierce competitors.<\/p>\n

In the finals, the Seniors went up against the St. Joseph High School Jaguars. These two girls\u2019 teams were the best of the best, both playing with heart, but the Jaguars put up a hard fight to take the win 61-49. It was a disappointing loss for the Hoyas, particularly for the grade 12 girls for who this was the last game of their high school basketball careers, but they knew they left everything on the court.<\/p>\n\n\t\t
