{"id":227287,"date":"2026-07-11T00:16:55","date_gmt":"2026-07-11T04:16:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/?p=227287"},"modified":"2026-07-11T00:16:57","modified_gmt":"2026-07-11T04:16:57","slug":"opp-to-step-up-enforcement-during-operation-safe-driver-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/opp-to-step-up-enforcement-during-operation-safe-driver-week\/","title":{"rendered":"OPP to step up enforcement during Operation Safe Driver Week"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reminding motorists that a split-second decision behind the wheel can have devastating consequences as officers prepare to increase enforcement during Operation Safe Driver Week.<\/p>\n\n\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Running from <strong>July 12 to 18<\/strong>, the annual traffic safety campaign will see the OPP join law enforcement agencies across North America in focusing on dangerous driving behaviours through education, awareness and targeted enforcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Led by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA), Operation Safe Driver Week is aimed primarily at improving safety involving commercial vehicles, while also reminding all motorists that safe driving is everyone&#8217;s responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the week-long initiative, OPP officers will pay close attention to improper lane changes, following too closely, speeding, impaired driving and other reckless behaviours that contribute to serious collisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The campaign comes as commercial vehicle collisions continue to be a significant concern across Ontario. In 2025, the OPP investigated <strong>8,826 crashes involving commercial motor vehicles<\/strong> within its jurisdictions.
