{"id":219869,"date":"2026-04-17T13:22:49","date_gmt":"2026-04-17T17:22:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/?p=219869"},"modified":"2026-04-17T15:29:44","modified_gmt":"2026-04-17T19:29:44","slug":"flood-update-from-the-town-of-huntsville-april-17-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/flood-update-from-the-town-of-huntsville-april-17-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"Flood update from the Town of Huntsville\u2014 April 17, 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>As flood conditions continue to evolve and&nbsp;change, the Town is actively&nbsp;monitoring&nbsp;local&nbsp;water levels,&nbsp;waterways, flood&nbsp;situations,&nbsp;and road&nbsp;conditions.&nbsp;The&nbsp;Ministry of Natural Resources&nbsp;(MNR)&nbsp;flood warning&nbsp;is in effect&nbsp;for our area&nbsp;until April&nbsp;22.<\/p>\n\n\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><br>&nbsp;<br>The Town is&nbsp;<strong>strongly&nbsp;advising<\/strong>&nbsp;property owners and businesses&nbsp;in flood-prone and low-lying areas&nbsp;<strong>throughout&nbsp;Huntsville,&nbsp;especially&nbsp;in the&nbsp;downtown core,&nbsp;and&nbsp;in&nbsp;Port Sydney&nbsp;<\/strong>to take&nbsp;precautionary measures&nbsp;to protect and secure their property in&nbsp;anticipation of&nbsp;additional&nbsp;forecasted&nbsp;rainfall&nbsp;that will flow through the water system&nbsp;this weekend.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Residents are advised that properties in flooded areas using well water should assume the water is not safe to drink.\u202fFor flooding resources\u202fvisit the&nbsp;Simcoe Muskoka&nbsp;District&nbsp;Health Unit website at&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.simcoemuskokahealth.org\/Topics\/EmergencyPreparedness\/Types-of-risks\/Flooding.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">www.simcoemuskokahealth.org<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Residents are&nbsp;strongly&nbsp;advised&nbsp;to stay&nbsp;clear of flooded areas, fast-moving&nbsp;water<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;and any spring ice (no ice is safe ice).<\/strong>&nbsp;Parents and guardians are also advised to&nbsp;remind children to stay clear of open waters,\u202fcreeks,\u202fand rivers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Public Works\u202fcrews will be prioritizing\u202fflood&nbsp;response\u202ffor the\u202fduration of\u202fthe\u202fevent and are continuing to assess and repair damaged roads.<strong>&nbsp;Residents should obey all posted road closure signs and barricades.<\/strong>&nbsp;Do&nbsp;not&nbsp;attempt&nbsp;to drive through flooded roadways.&nbsp;Even shallow water can be dangerous&nbsp;and may hide washouts&nbsp;or debris.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sandbag\u202fmaterials\u202f\u202f<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><br>The Town&nbsp;continues to replenish sand and sandbag&nbsp;materials.
