{"id":207417,"date":"2025-09-21T22:46:30","date_gmt":"2025-09-22T02:46:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/?p=207417"},"modified":"2025-09-21T23:02:35","modified_gmt":"2025-09-22T03:02:35","slug":"ontario-government-reaches-another-milestone-in-the-reinstatement-of-the-ontario-northlander-passenger-rail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/ontario-government-reaches-another-milestone-in-the-reinstatement-of-the-ontario-northlander-passenger-rail\/","title":{"rendered":"Province reaches another milestone in bringing back the Northlander"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Last week, the Ontario government announced the completion of the North Bay Rail Bypass, a 982 metre track that will bypass the North Bay Rail Yard.<\/p>\n\n\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The bypass is aimed at improving safety, operational efficiency, and saving travellers time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPeople and businesses across the north have long awaited the return of the Northlander and that is why we are delivering on our promise to restore this vital transportation network that will propel northern economic growth,\u201d said Minister of Transportation Prabmeet Sarkaria last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe completion of the North Bay Rail Bypass marks an important milestone in our government&#8217;s revitalization and restoration of the Northlander, and delivers on a promise to connect Nipissing families, workers, and industries with economic opportunities across the province\u201d said Vic Fedeli,&nbsp;MPP&nbsp;for Nipissing. \u201cWe look forward to seeing the Northlander back in action, delivering the efficient, convenient, and affordable transportation that northern Ontario residents deserve.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Passenger rail is great! Many in Muskoka are looking forward to the return of the Northlander. I think it will have a great benefit both in terms of residents&#8217; travel to TO and for tourism,&#8221; stated District of Muskoka Chair Jeff Lehman. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Northlander will connect Toronto to Timmins with 16 planned stops along the way and a rail connection to Cochrane.
