{"id":204179,"date":"2025-09-12T11:53:43","date_gmt":"2025-09-12T15:53:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/?p=204179"},"modified":"2025-09-12T11:54:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T15:54:10","slug":"a-case-of-mistaken-identity-resulted-in-death-threat-conviction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/a-case-of-mistaken-identity-resulted-in-death-threat-conviction\/","title":{"rendered":"A case of mistaken identity results in a death threat conviction"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A case of mistaken identity landed a Muskoka man in court recently.<\/p>\n\n\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>William Dear, 52, pled guilty in a Bracebridge courtroom to harassment and uttering death threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Court heard that in November of 2024, a man contacted police to complain that he was being followed and harassed by a stranger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The caller said a vehicle had been following him, and when he stopped, the driver, later identified as Dear, got out of his car and demanded answers regarding drug trafficking and child exploitation, the court heard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In another incident in December of 2024, Dear pulled his car in front of the complainant on Bethune Drive in Gravenhurst, forcing him to stop. Dear again began berating the driver and threatened to shoot him, court heard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The defence lawyer explained that Dear has had issues with an individual allegedly harassing a member of his family.
