The Town of Huntsville will welcome\u00a0<\/strong>four new animal sculptures into Kent Park with a lighting ceremony at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025, as part of Nuit Blanche North. <\/p>\n\n\n

<\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The new installation by Bryan Faubert deepens Huntsville\u2019s identity as a vibrant art community nestled in the heart of Muskoka, featuring sculptures of animals native to the area.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are excited to share the results from Kent Park Public Art Project with Huntsville,\u201d shares\u00a0Mayor Nancy Alcock. \u201cThe medium reflects a modern interpretation of our community, and we warmly welcome these four sculptures that further diversify our public art.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For one night only at Nuit Blanche, the artist will be on site to share his inspiration for the project. \u201cOn this night, these animals will be illuminated to animate this newly integrated public sculpture and welcome the artwork into the vibrant community of Huntsville,\u201d shares Faubert. \u201cThey are also lit and create shadows during the day with the passing of the sun overhead. These shadows change, distort and are in a constant state of flux with the slight changes in the sun’s daily path creating countless variations in these projections.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flame and cold forged, welded steel sculptures feature a bear, a wolf, a deer, and a loon, and were inspired by residents who provided input throughout the process, and the artist\u2019s lived experience in the area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe art selection process was grounded in public engagement, and I think that is shown in how well these pieces represent our community,\u201d says\u00a0Councillor Helena Renwick, who served on the selection jury for the Kent Park Public Art Project. \u201cKent Park is central to our downtown and this art installation encourages residents and visitors alike to slow down, and spend more time appreciating our beautiful surroundings.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About the Kent Park Public Art Project <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Kent Park Public Art Project is a collaboration between the Town of Huntsville, Muskoka Arts and Crafts Inc., the Downtown Huntsville BIA, Huntsville\/Lake of Bays Chamber of Commerce, Huntsville Festival of the Arts, and Huntsville Art Society, to create a permanent outdoor work of art in Kent Park.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kent Park is a popular gathering space for community members and events, and is located at the corner of Brunel Rd. and Main St. E<\/a>., in the heart of downtown Huntsville. The Kent Park Public Art Project was initiated as part of Huntsville\u2019s Community Improvement Plan, which seeks to invest in public art in high traffic and prominent locations in the downtown core. This investment is intended to celebrate and showcase local arts and culture, create a unique \u2018sense of place\u2019 and identity for Downtown Huntsville, and provide landmarks to orient visitors.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The budget for this public art project is $50,000, inclusive of applicable taxes, and is funded in part by the Public Art Reserve and Municipal Accommodation Tax Reserve, which collect funds through the sale of artwork in the Town\u2019s two galleries and from overnight stays at local tourist accommodations, respectively. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 About the Artist: Bryan Faubert <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bryan Faubert received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia University of Art and Design and his Master of Fine Arts from the University of Calgary in 2020. In 2014, he opened Studio 34, a sculpture studio, where he taught workshops and classes and conducted his studio endeavours. This space was about accessibility to the public to experiment and learn, creating shared knowledge.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Placemaking is at the core of Faubert\u2019s urban interventions and installations; this is where he creates a place of transition where the usual boundaries of thought, self-understanding, and behaviour shift, opening the way to something new.
