{"id":191483,"date":"2025-05-28T14:36:54","date_gmt":"2025-05-28T18:36:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/?p=191483"},"modified":"2025-05-28T17:20:00","modified_gmt":"2025-05-28T21:20:00","slug":"mayor-alcock-delegates-authority-in-the-face-of-strong-mayor-powers-legislation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/mayor-alcock-delegates-authority-in-the-face-of-strong-mayor-powers-legislation\/","title":{"rendered":"Alcock delegates back authority in the face of Strong Mayor Powers legislation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>From the Town of Huntsville<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Effective May 1, 2025, the Mayor of the Town of Huntsville was granted additional Mayoral Powers and Duties Under the\u202fMunicipal Act, also known as Strong Mayor Powers. <\/p>\n\n\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Strong Mayor Powers offer resources to heads of council to accelerate the implementation of key shared municipal-provincial priorities such as housing, transit, and infrastructure.&nbsp;<strong>On May 28, Mayor Nancy Alcock signed her first four decisions under this authority delegating certain powers and duties to the Chief Administrative Officer as well as Council.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"addspace\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first decisions are as follows:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"adddoublespace\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Delegating to the CAO, the responsibility to oversee the Town\u2019s organizational structure;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Delegating to the CAO, the authority over employment matters;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Delegating to Council the authority to appoint or dismiss the CAO;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Confirming the Committees of Council as existed on May 1, 2025, and the appointed Chairs and Vice-Chairs to remain in place for the remainder of the 2022-2026 term of Council&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI believe effective governance is built on strong collaboration, where every voice contributes to a shared vision, and strategic leadership transforms that vision into purposeful action.
