Progressive Conservative incumbent Graydon Smith, Green Party candidate Matt Richter, and NDP candidate Jim Ronholm met at YourTv today (Feb. 19).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The candidates discussed issues such as the creation of affordable housing, rent control, the Landlord and Tenant Board, mental health, infrastructure, Bill 173: the Intimate Partner Violence Epidemic Act 2024, the lack of primary healthcare providers, healthcare in general, and the two promised hospitals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Local funds are going into this as well. It’s not just the provincial government. I’ve also heard people say that you need to reelect the Conservative government because the project will die. I guarantee you if you elect an NDP government, this project will not die. We will commit to make sure that those hospitals are built.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I think backroom deals where people say if a government is elected this will happen, is the old way of doing politics and that’s what’s frustrating people so often nowadays. We don’t want backroom deals to get the healthcare we deserve. We want what’s done to be honest and fair and in our riding we deserve the two hospitals that has been put on hold for the past seven years and we’re still not seeing any action<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“What they want is representation. What people want is this project to move forward. What people want is the funding to make this happen, and we have brought all that to the table. And again, my expertise is in this area, having been part of this from the beginning. Having fought for both communities to receive these sites. I mean, who’s in the best position to continue that conversation? I think it’s me.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was noted that the Liberal candidate was invited but did not attend. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
