{"id":183576,"date":"2024-12-28T09:59:23","date_gmt":"2024-12-28T14:59:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/?p=183576"},"modified":"2024-12-28T09:59:25","modified_gmt":"2024-12-28T14:59:25","slug":"traffic-stop-by-almaguin-opp-leads-to-trafficking-charges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/traffic-stop-by-almaguin-opp-leads-to-trafficking-charges\/","title":{"rendered":"Traffic stop by Almaguin OPP leads to trafficking charges"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Police arrested and charged a driver and a passenger with drug-related offenses following a traffic stop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On December 26, 2024, at approximately 1:30 a.m., members from the Almaguin Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on general patrol, and conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle on Highway 124 in the township of Strong, when the ALPPR alerted officers of a potential wanted party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the investigation, the driver and passenger were arrested for possession of drugs. A search of the vehicle located drug paraphernalia, a digital scale and drugs suspected to be cocaine, fentanyl and methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of just over $17,000.00.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result of the investigation, Alexis SAWCHUK, 34 years-of-age, from North Bay, was charged with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking &#8211; two counts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Possession of a schedule I substance &#8211; Two counts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Driving while under suspension<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Further, Jason SIMPELL, 42 years-of-age, from North Bay, was charged with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking &#8211; two counts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Possession of a schedule I substance &#8211; Two counts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fail to Comply with Probation Order<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Both accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury on December 27th, 2024, and were remanded into custody.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All OPP patrol vehicles are equipped with ALPR technology.
