{"id":182853,"date":"2024-12-11T12:02:15","date_gmt":"2024-12-11T17:02:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/?p=182853"},"modified":"2024-12-11T12:02:18","modified_gmt":"2024-12-11T17:02:18","slug":"town-of-huntsville-passes-new-development-charges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/town-of-huntsville-passes-new-development-charges\/","title":{"rendered":"Town of Huntsville passes new development charges"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><em>With information from the Town of Huntsville<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Town of Huntsville is advising residents that Huntsville Council has approved updated development charges effective January 1, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What are Development Charges?<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Development charges are&nbsp;fees paid by developers to help pay for the infrastructure required to provide municipal services to new developments.&nbsp;These charges are generally collected when a building permit is issued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As per provincial legislation, the new development charges bylaw provides exemptions for constructing secondary suites on properties (i.e. in-law suites or apartments over a garage). Affordable housing continues to be exempt from development charges and additional rebates are also available.\u00a0 \u00a0For more information on the Town\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Affordable Housing<\/strong>\u00a0initiatives, please visit\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.huntsville.ca\/en\/home-property-and-planning\/affordable-housing.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Huntsville.ca<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Council opted to charge 75% of the rate identified in the development charges background study and phase in (through installments) the change over a period of five years. The full amount will be applied in 2029.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For&nbsp;<strong>non-residential development<\/strong>, the full rate will be phased in over a period of five (5) years. The updated by-law includes charges that represent an increase of $1,160 per unit for single &amp; semi-detached houses and an increase of $14.22 per square meter for non-residential construction in 2025.
