Two Huntsville players have been selected to play for Team Ontario at the under-18 Canadian Field Lacrosse championships in Winnipeg September 2 – 4.<\/p>\n

Caleb Creasor and Jason Knox both made the team following tryouts in southern Ontario. At 15, they are the youngest members of the team and are excited about playing with the best in their age group. They are also aware of the potential this can have on their playing careers and educational opportunities.<\/p>\n

Presently both attend school at St. Andrews College in Aurora, mainly because of the lacrosse program.<\/p>\n

Jason Knox<\/h6>\n

Jason Knox was fortunate in that the schedule of tryouts for the Ontario team worked in his favour.<\/p>\n

Knox has been unable to play for several weeks because of a broken collarbone. The day of the final tryout, a red and white game, he was given the go ahead by his doctor to resume play and they allowed him to participate.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the start of the practice I was a little nervous,\u201d he said. \u201cWhen it got going I felt good and knew I had a chance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Caleb Creasor<\/h6>\n

Caleb Creasor said he is honoured and proud to represent Huntsville. He said it shows that players from smaller towns can compete with those in the larger centers. He was able to attend the first tryouts in July. The second was poorly attended and that set up the final game tryout July 25 where both impressed the team coaches.<\/p>\n

It feels good to see my hard work is paying off. I was surprised I made the team because I\u2019m in the younger age group. I didn\u2019t know if they would take younger goalies. Between now and September I will be attending this goalie camp, I am in box lacrosse provincials and staying in shape trying to get better.<\/p>\n

Caleb Creasor<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

There could be another reward for making the provincial team and that is the attention it will have on colleges and universities in the United States.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will be able to add it to my resume and coaches will be able to see that and it will give me a better opportunity to play NCAA lacrosse,\u201d Creasor said.<\/p>\n

Knox agrees saying he has already visited High Point University in North Carolina, a division one lacrosse school.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s big for Canadians, he said. \u201cIt opens the eyes of the scouts in the U.S. They know players in Canada have great stick skills and playing now at this level just increases our chances.”<\/p>\n

Knox would like to wind up at Duke or U of North Carolina and is also looking at Vermont University.<\/p>\n

For now though, the focus is on the Canadian under-18 Championships. There are two more practices with the provincial team before the Championships. It’s a nice way to end another lacrosse season.<\/p>\n
