But you may not know that they also quietly support many different charities and events in Huntsville. Among those is Paddle for Fairvern.<\/p>\n<p>They had first-hand experience with Fairvern Nursing Home when Bessie&#8217;s mom was a resident for the final nine months of her life.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We had her at home for 11 years with us but then in the last year things were harder,&#8221; says Bessie. &#8220;Fairvern was a wonderful thing. It took away the burden and the tiredness and she was looked after very well. We&#8217;re getting old, too. We might have to book a room there.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>They&#8217;ve supported the Paddle for Fairvern fundraiser for several years because they feel Fairvern plays an important role in our community. &#8220;It&#8217;s not easy for caregivers. When you work and you have children, 24\/7 caregiving is hard to do. They do a good job over there.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Fairvern is home to 76 residents and is in dire need of redevelopment. At any given time, there are approximately 200 people on the home&#8217;s waiting list.<\/p>\n<p>The fourth annual Paddle for Fairvern hits the water on August 6, 2016. Paddlers start at Hutcheson Beach on the shores of Lake Vernon and land at Hidden Valley Beach in Peninsula Lake. A barbecue follows at Hidden Valley Highlands Ski Area. Organizers hope to raise between $30,000 and $40,000 this year.
