{"id":157523,"date":"2024-07-03T15:51:04","date_gmt":"2024-07-03T19:51:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/rwddev\/?p=157523"},"modified":"2024-07-03T16:06:36","modified_gmt":"2024-07-03T20:06:36","slug":"hospital-plan-is-not-a-done-deal-says-mahc-board-chair","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/hospital-plan-is-not-a-done-deal-says-mahc-board-chair\/","title":{"rendered":"Hospital plan is not a \u201cdone deal,\u201d says MAHC board chair"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The chair of the Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) board says a motion passed last night was not an effort to covertly approve their model for healthcare in Muskoka.<\/p>\n\n\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe plan to submit the plan to the province in November, not tomorrow,\u201d said Board Chair Dave Uffelmann today. \u201cThis is by no means closing off the conversation or the discussion. This was simply a move to get the consultants working on fleshing out the package.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During last night\u2019s board of directors meeting, the Board voted unanimously to request their consultants proceed with detailed planning for the redevelopment of the hospital sites in Bracebridge and Huntsville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prior to the meeting, Parry Sound-Muskoka MPP Graydon Smith and Bracebridge Mayor Rick Maloney were vocally opposed to the passing of the motion.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTo pass a resolution that gives direction to their consultants to start the \u2018detailed planning and documentation for a Stage 1.3 submission\u2019 is in fact giving their consultants the marching orders to design a model that MAHC can approve,\u201d said Maloney. \u201cThat is a clear message that MAHC has not been listening to the repeated concerns they have heard from south Muskoka stakeholders.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Uffelman said he spoke with both Maloney and Smith before the meeting.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI was surprised at how vehement the reaction was. It may have been read differently than it was intended,\u201d said Uffelmann regarding opposition to the motion. \u201cI think some of that was a reaction to the sentiment from the broader community\u2026but with the MPP and the Mayor of Bracebridge we all have the same objective of the highest quality of care while meeting our capital budget.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last night\u2019s decision directs the hospital planning team to refine and elaborate on the redevelopment plan, ensuring it comprehensively meets community healthcare needs, says Uffelmann. It ensures that the hospital can adhere to timelines and secure its place in the provincial hospital redevelopment queue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe want to get the complete package to the board by October. Originally we had wanted that done by now\u2026we need to get back in gear,\u201d he said<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Uffelmann says the model includes significant flexibility to cater to demographic changes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe solution must be data-based,\u201d he said. \u201cThe key is to advance the model while still building in that flexibility. I think there\u2019s general acceptance of the broad principles, the debate is around the numbers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also approved was the direction to continue collaborating with consultants and stakeholders to address flexible space, future capacity planning, and key project success factors identified in the board package report, says Uffelmann.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The success of the plan is contingent on securing the $225 million local share for the project.
