{"id":156309,"date":"2024-06-10T15:25:12","date_gmt":"2024-06-10T19:25:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/rwddev\/?p=156309"},"modified":"2024-06-10T15:25:14","modified_gmt":"2024-06-10T19:25:14","slug":"public-health-offering-routine-vaccination-clinics-this-summer-for-4-17-year-olds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/public-health-offering-routine-vaccination-clinics-this-summer-for-4-17-year-olds\/","title":{"rendered":"Public health offering routine vaccination clinics this summer for 4 -17-year-olds"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>From Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0This summer the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) is operating vaccination clinics to help children and youth aged four to 17 years to catch up, keep up and stay on track with their publicly funded, routine vaccines that were missed during the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The health unit recommends getting immunized according to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontario.ca\/page\/vaccines-children-school\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">publicly funded immunization schedule<\/span><\/a>\u00a0for Ontario. This includes vaccinations against tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, and meningococcal disease. Ontario\u2019s Immunization of School Pupils Act requires that students be vaccinated for those diseases or have a valid exemption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cInfectious diseases can spread among children and adolescents at school, and parents can help keep their kids healthy by ensuring they are up to date with their routine vaccination,\u201d says Dr. Colin Lee, Associate Medical Officer of Health at SMDHU. \u201cVaccines are a safe and effective way to prevent infections that can make people very sick or cause long-lasting problems. Measles infection is of particular concern given its increase worldwide including Ontario, and its potential severe illness in children.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parents and caregivers whose children have not received all recommended vaccines for their age or are unsure of which vaccines are needed, should speak to their child\u2019s healthcare provider or the health unit as soon as possible. They can help figure out which vaccines children have already had, which ones they still need, and when and where to get them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Families with school-age children who are eligible or overdue for their routine and publicly funded vaccines and do not have a healthcare provider can book an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/smdhu.inputhealth.com\/ebooking#new\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">immunization appointment<\/span><\/a>\u00a0 at one of the health unit offices in Barrie, Collingwood, Cookstown, Gravenhurst, Huntsville, Midland and Orillia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If a child or youth has already received immunizations through their healthcare provider, parents and caregivers must update their\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.simcoemuskokahealth.org\/Topics\/Immunization\/Report-an-immunization\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">immunization record<\/span><\/a>\u00a0on file with the health unit online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information about routine and required vaccines given to students and the diseases they prevent, please\u00a0visit\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.simcoemuskokahealth.org\/Summer-Clinics-for-Children-and-Youth\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">smdhu.org<\/span><\/a>.
