{"id":155939,"date":"2024-06-04T10:33:04","date_gmt":"2024-06-04T14:33:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/rwddev\/?p=155939"},"modified":"2024-06-04T10:33:06","modified_gmt":"2024-06-04T14:33:06","slug":"all-terrain-vehicle-fatalities-up-helmets-still-underutilized-opp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/all-terrain-vehicle-fatalities-up-helmets-still-underutilized-opp\/","title":{"rendered":"All-terrain vehicle fatalities up, helmets still underutilized: OPP"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reporting a 125 per cent increase in ATV fatalities in 2024, with more than half of the deceased found without a helmet.<\/p>\n\n\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Nine people (eight drivers, one passenger) have died in OPP-investigated ATV incidents this year, compared to three drivers and one passenger at this time last year. With one-third of this year&#8217;s fatalities involving alcohol and\/or drugs, the data is a reminder that some ATV riders dismiss the significant risks these (and other poor riding behaviours) pose.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The OPP and its valued partner,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ofatv.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">the&nbsp;Ontario Federation of All Terrain Vehicle Clubs&nbsp;(OFATV)<\/span><\/a>, are urging all ATV riders, regardless of riding experience or skill level, to wear a properly fitted off-road vehicle helmet during every ride. ATV enthusiasts are also reminded to always ride sober\/drug-free, maintain control of their vehicle, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/canadasafetycouncil.org\/product-category\/off-road-vehicle-training\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">take an ATV driving course<\/span>.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Safe riding habits need to start at the very outset.
