{"id":14924,"date":"2016-05-16T08:14:20","date_gmt":"2016-05-16T12:14:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/huntsville.dopperonline.ca\/?p=14924"},"modified":"2016-05-16T08:44:32","modified_gmt":"2016-05-16T12:44:32","slug":"janet-markham-rose-evans-and-rich-trenholm-honoured-at-sports-hall-of-fame-ceremony","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/janet-markham-rose-evans-and-rich-trenholm-honoured-at-sports-hall-of-fame-ceremony\/","title":{"rendered":"Janet Markham, Rose Evans and Rich Trenholm honoured at Sports Hall of Fame ceremony"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong> <broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n<p>Sharing the spotlight with the four new members of the Huntsville Sports Hall of Fame Saturday night were the latest recipients of the Jan Glenn Memorial Award and the Mike Greaves Memorial Award which are given to the male and female sports persons of the year.<\/p>\n<p>This year the Jan Glenn award was shared by volunteer dynamos Janet Markham and Rose Evans for their role in the organization of the National Women&#8217;s Under-18 Hockey Championship in Huntsville.<\/p>\n<p>Their commitment to the community and the joy they get from volunteering was evident in their smiles and kind words on being given the award. I like reliving the event.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Evans agreed. \u201cIt was an amazing event. It was fun to do it with my partner here. It\u2019s all part of volunteering. You meet amazing people and have fun with them\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Mike Greaves Award went to Rich Trenholm for his role in organizing and building the sport of Triathlon in Huntsville. He joked about how out of shape he was when he first came to Huntsville, and how he even today, forty pounds lighter, is a mediocre athlete. He told the audience that things happen when you have a dream.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"modern-quote full\"><p>You only regret the chances you don\u2019t take and its up to you to make it happen.<cite>Mike Greaves award recipient, Rich Trenholm<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Trenholm was the driving force behind Huntsville being selected as the sight for a full Ironman competition. Living the dream on the road is great for a while but having a home is better. Huntsville is home to me. I was a Town and District councillor for four terms, a Rotarian, and presently a member of the Town\u2019s Economic Development committee and Sports Hall of Fame board.
