SHORTNESS IN THE DUMMY<\/strong><\/p>\n GETTING RID OF LOSERS<\/p>\n \u201cShortness in the Dum-mee! Shortness in the Dum-mee!\u201d Often newer players are told to get out the trump first thing. This is true but only if there is a reason not to. A reason not to occurs when you have non-trump shortness somewhere in the dummy. This allows you to ruff losers with dummy\u2019s trump and thus to make extra trump tricks. If you already have drawn the trump, you may not have trumps left in dummy to ruff losers.<\/p>\n For example: You have the Ace, King of Clubs and two little ones in your hand and two small Clubs in dummy. At the first opportunity, play your Ace, King and then lead the small clubs from your hand for a ruff in dummy. Even if your opponent on the left shows out and ruffs, often you\u2019ll be able to overruff on one or two tricks.<\/p>\n I extracted the above quote from an article entitled \u201cA Reason to Not Pull Trump\u201d written by Leslie Shafer and published in the magazine \u201cBridge Bulletin,\u201d on Page 45 of the May 2016 edition. The \u201cBridge Bulletin\u201d is the monthly magazine published by the ACBL (the American Contract Bridge League).
