Remember no ice is safe ice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Consider the risks to yourself and others should you venture out on frozen surfaces. This not only puts the person in harm&#8217;s way but when first responders are called to an emergency on ice, the rescue efforts are complicated and put firefighter, police, and paramedic lives at risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Safety tips if you are considering venturing out on frozen surfaces:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Wear appropriate clothing to prevent hypothermia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Ensure your cellphone is fully charged. Consider downloading&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/what3words.com\/how-to-use-the-what3words-app\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">https:\/\/what3words.com\/how-to-use-the-what3words-app\/<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This app will aid first responders in pinpointing your location when you need help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Never go out alone and always tell someone your planned destination and your expected time of return.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avoid unfamiliar areas at night.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you choose to go out on the ice, carry safety equipment such as ice picks and throw ropes for self-rescue or to aid others.\u00a0The response time from emergency personnel may be prolonged due to the vastness of Haliburton County.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not drink alcohol or consume other drugs.
