{"id":146740,"date":"2023-11-21T12:39:44","date_gmt":"2023-11-21T17:39:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/rwddev\/?p=146740"},"modified":"2023-11-21T12:39:51","modified_gmt":"2023-11-21T17:39:51","slug":"court-finds-man-guilty-of-assaulting-police-officer-among-other-charges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/court-finds-man-guilty-of-assaulting-police-officer-among-other-charges\/","title":{"rendered":"Court finds man guilty of assaulting police officer, among other charges"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A Muskoka man recently appeared in court to plead guilty to assaulting a police officer, driving an off-road vehicle on a town roadway, and driving without insurance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In front of a Bracebridge Judge, Bracebridge resident Ryan Phillips pled guilty to charges stemming from incidents that occurred on Jan 2, 2022, and Oct. 11, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Court heard that in the 2021 incident, police observed Phillips pushing a dirtbike on Dill Street at roughly 10:15 a.m. in Bracebridge and stopped to speak with him. When the officer went back to his vehicle, Phillips ran to the dirtbike and attempted to kick-start it before being stopped by police, the court heard. Witnesses said he had been riding the bike in town but had lost control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the 2022 incident, Phillips was in the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital in serious condition while recovering from stab wounds, the court heard. Philips caused \u201ca great deal of trouble\u201d at the hospital court heard, requiring the assistance of some five or six nurses and security guards. When police arrived to assist hospital staff Phillips spit on one of the officers, court heard.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Phillips was sentenced to 45 days of house arrest, six months of probation, a $260 fine, and a six-month driving ban.
