Built by town founder Frank Burk in the 1880s, Burk’s Hotel was the finest establishment in Burk’s Falls. The two-and-a-half storey structure boasted, according to an 1887 ad, a dining room and bar that was \u2018supplied with the best of everything.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Burk was known as a genial and popular proprietor and happily directed people on the best fishing, hunting, and scenic trips through the area. Burk also operated a post office and general store from the hotel<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Frank Burk died in 1901, aged 49, while the hotel was at its peak. His hotel was gone seven years later when, along with much of the town, it burned to the ground. The hotel was never rebuilt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interestingly enough, the Burk family founded two regional towns: Frank’s father, David Francis II, founded Seguin Falls, now a ghost town on the Nipissing Road. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
