{"id":145442,"date":"2023-10-21T07:40:59","date_gmt":"2023-10-21T11:40:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/rwddev\/?p=145442"},"modified":"2023-10-21T07:41:05","modified_gmt":"2023-10-21T11:41:05","slug":"opp-warn-of-grandparent-scam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/opp-warn-of-grandparent-scam\/","title":{"rendered":"OPP warn of \u201cgrandparent scam\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is warning residents to be aware of ongoing fraud activity that is occurring in Muskoka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u201cEmergency Scam\u201d otherwise known as the \u201cGrandparent Scam\u201d is on the rise again, where a victim receives a call from a person that they are led to believe is a lawyer, police officer or bondsperson claiming that there\u2019s an emergency and the victim\u2019s family member needs cash to get out of jail or have bail posted. The objective is to play on the victim\u2019s emotional reaction and the scammer will then have the victim purchase gift cards or similar and then call them back with the codes.
