{"id":145239,"date":"2023-10-17T14:16:42","date_gmt":"2023-10-17T18:16:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/rwddev\/?p=145239"},"modified":"2023-10-17T14:16:48","modified_gmt":"2023-10-17T18:16:48","slug":"local-historian-takes-readers-back-with-vintage-muskoka","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/local-historian-takes-readers-back-with-vintage-muskoka\/","title":{"rendered":"Local historian takes readers back with Vintage Muskoka"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Victoria Cross winners, cranberry farming pioneers and legends of the big band era all find a home in Andrew Hind\u2019s latest offering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Vintage Muskoka<\/em>&nbsp;is a new book by local historian and documentarian Andrew Hind and it spans the breadth of the region and more than 100 years of local history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe book covers\u2026stories as far as Foots Bay and MacTier in the west to Huntsville and Lake of Bays in the east,\u201d says Hind.&nbsp; \u201cIn terms of time frame, the two dozen stories cover the range 1860s through to 1960s predominantly, but the echoes of these stories can be heard to the modern day as they helped shape the Muskoka we know and love today.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hind has penned many books on local history including&nbsp;<em>Exploring Hidden Muskoka<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>Muskoka Resorts: Then and Now<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>Ghost Town\u2019s of Ontario\u2019s Cottage Country.<\/em>&nbsp;He\u2019s also a regular contributor to local publications like&nbsp;<em>Muskoka Life<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>Parry Sound Life<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe research for these stories stretch back decades,\u201d Hind explains. \u201cWhen I sat down to begin writing this book last winter I turned to my files and pulled out some that I thought were particularly interesting.
