{"id":144758,"date":"2023-10-05T18:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-10-05T22:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/rwddev\/?p=144758"},"modified":"2023-10-05T22:31:37","modified_gmt":"2023-10-06T02:31:37","slug":"what-is-causing-patient-gridlock-at-mahc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/what-is-causing-patient-gridlock-at-mahc\/","title":{"rendered":"What is causing patient gridlock at MAHC?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Further to an<a href=\"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/hospitals-experiencing-capacity-challenges-mahc\/\"> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">alarming press release issued by Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare<\/span><\/a> (which manages both the Bracebridge and Huntsville hospitals) on October 4, 2023, regarding patient gridlock being experienced at both sites, Diane Goerge, Vice President of Integrated Care, Patient Services &amp; Quality, said various factors are at play, which have resulted in overcapacity at both hospital sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Occupancy has been a challenge for years hence our work to redevelop Muskoka\u2019s hospitals. We believe the current spike in occupancy challenges is driven by systemic issues compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the general health care needs of our aging communities,&#8221; stated George via an email statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Today, we have 50 Alternate Level of Care (ALC) patients across both hospitals who no longer require acute care services of the hospital and are awaiting placement in an alternate setting \u2013 such as a long-term care facility, retirement home, or to go home with the appropriate home care supports in place. This continues to reinforce Muskoka\u2019s need for new, expanded hospitals to manage today\u2019s volumes let alone demand in the future.
