{"id":139546,"date":"2023-06-16T08:46:54","date_gmt":"2023-06-16T12:46:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/rwddev\/?p=139546"},"modified":"2023-06-16T08:46:55","modified_gmt":"2023-06-16T12:46:55","slug":"criminal-harassment-from-neighbour-leaves-child-terrified","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/criminal-harassment-from-neighbour-leaves-child-terrified\/","title":{"rendered":"Criminal harassment from neighbour leaves child terrified\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A Bracebridge woman was in court recently to answer for harassment charges that left a neighbour and her six-year-old daughter badly shaken.<\/p>\n\n\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Erika Brown, 31, pled guilty on May 24 to harassment charges stemming from incidents that occurred in Bracebridge in February of 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Court heard that Bracebridge OPP received a call for service from a woman saying that a neighbour, Brown, had threatened to beat her up and had told her she hoped she died. The police cautioned Brown but court heard that within the hour Brown had chased the victim with her car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Crown, Brown was also reported over the next several days to stare at the victim and her daughter through their window, scream obscenities at them and telling them she hoped they both died.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Crown, when Officers returned to the residence, Brown threatened to get a gun and shoot the officers who attended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Defence lawyer Jay Herbert said Brown denied making any threats towards the officers, the victims or her family. She did yell \u201cnegative\u201d comments at the victims, said Herbert, and was guilty of harassment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The victim provided an impact statement to the court saying she and her daughter had to barricade themselves in their home and didn\u2019t leave for several days. The victim said her daughter is still afraid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Court heard that Brown has a previous criminal record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Justice Michael Harpur said the worst part of the crime was the intimidation of the six-year-old. He called it \u201cutterly unacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brown was sentenced to a suspended sentence and 15 months probation.
