{"id":137273,"date":"2023-05-02T21:16:51","date_gmt":"2023-05-03T01:16:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/rwddev\/?p=137273"},"modified":"2023-05-04T10:03:32","modified_gmt":"2023-05-04T14:03:32","slug":"south-muskoka-shield-banned-from-gmhl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/south-muskoka-shield-banned-from-gmhl\/","title":{"rendered":"South Muskoka Shield banned from GMHL"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The South Muskoka Shield has been officially banned from the Greater Metro Junior \u2018A\u2019 Hockey League (GMHL) for the 2023\/2024 hockey season.<\/p>\n\n\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>On May 1, GMHL president Bob Russell released the following statement:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs of May 1, 2023, the Greater Metro Junior \u2018A\u2019 Hockey League has instituted a mandatory leave of absence for the South Muskoka Shield for the 2023\/24 season.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The team will be in operational dormancy until February 1, 2024.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Former President Troy Kahler has been placed on an operational suspension.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The current ownership group has been granted a window to sell the GMHL membership until February 1, 2024 to an approved ownership group.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Players rights held by the Shield are free agents for the 2023\/24 season.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Greater Metro Junior \u2018A\u2019 Hockey League has proudly had a club in Gravenhurst under the South Muskoka Shield name for 18 years and we are hopeful to return for the 2024\/25 season under a new ownership group.&nbsp;\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kahler was charged with assault by the Nipissing West OPP on Dec. 16, 2022 following an incident at the Sturgeon Falls Arena.
