New Muskoka region wellness program hopes to build brighter futures for cancer patients through dance, yoga and exercise<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enliven Cancer Care has launched its much-needed Movement Matters program thanks, in part, to $25,000 it received through Hydro One\u2019s Energizing Life Community Fund<\/span><\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n

With this funding, Enliven Cancer Care has created more than 250 program spaces in its Nia Dance, Yoga, and exercise classes which are designed to help reset the body and mind through safe and supportive practice and help regain balance and strength. These programs will help Enliven Cancer Care deliver on its mission to support those living with cancer in the Muskoka region to live well with and beyond a diagnosis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe impact of this Hydro One grant cannot be overstated, and came at a critical time when our organization, like many others, was very vulnerable due to the prolonged effects of the pandemic,\u201d said Carrie Campbell, Board Chair, Enliven Cancer Care. \u201cThis grant will enable us to deliver much-needed programs within our community.  In fact, several of the program classes are already over-subscribed due to the tremendous demand,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAt Hydro One, we are deeply committed to supporting organizations working tirelessly to build a better and brighter future in their local communities,\u201d said Daniel Levitan, Vice President, Stakeholder Relations, at Hydro One. \u201cThrough activities like Nia Dance and Yoga, Enliven Cancer Care plays a critical role in helping improve the physical and emotional well-being of those living with or affected by a cancer diagnosis through safe and restorative practices,\u201d said Levitan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s heartening to see vital organizations like Enliven Cancer Care receive support from within the Muskoka business community,\u201d said Graydon Smith, Member of Provincial Parliament for Parry Sound- Muskoka. \u201cEnliven\u2019s passion for helping those affected by this disease is truly commendable, and I have no doubt that this grant from Hydro One will enable them to make an even greater impact in our community and beyond,” said Smith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis Hydro One grant will not only help Enliven Cancer Care further their mission, but also bring hope and comfort to those battling this disease in our community,\u201d said Huntsville Mayor Nancy Alcock. \u201cI applaud Enliven Cancer Care\u2019s dedication and commitment to improving the lives of our residents and look forward to seeing the positive impact of this funding on our community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enliven is hosting a Cancer Wellness Fair on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, to bring together local resources, support systems, healthcare providers, caregivers, and people affected by cancer. Twenty-five exhibitors will be on-hand to offer information on health, personal care, and financial and legal matters designed to improve the overall well-being of those living with a cancer diagnosis. The fair will be held at the Active Living Centre in Huntsville from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., and all are invited to attend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Energizing Life Community Fund supports community-led initiatives that promote physical, emotional, and psychological safety and well-being for Ontarians. This year\u2019s Energizing Life Community Fund grant recipients provide needed mental health services to families and children of first responders, rural and Indigenous communities, and seniors; foster environmental sustainability through art and recreation; and provide critical health services to ensure local communities stay safe and well. To learn more about the Energizing Life Community Fund, visit www.HydroOne.com\/EnergizingLife<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
