{"id":136380,"date":"2023-04-19T13:29:48","date_gmt":"2023-04-19T17:29:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/rwddev\/?p=136380"},"modified":"2023-04-19T13:29:49","modified_gmt":"2023-04-19T17:29:49","slug":"town-of-huntsville-issues-spring-freshet-update-april-19-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/town-of-huntsville-issues-spring-freshet-update-april-19-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"Town of Huntsville issues spring freshet update \u2013 April 19, 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Water levels north of Huntsville and the Big East River have begun to decline and as a result, Huntsville Lakes are peaking.&nbsp; Water levels downtown, and in low-lying areas such as Rivercove, Old North Road, Glen Acres and South Drive have stalled.&nbsp;<strong>It is anticipated over the next 24 \u2013 48 hours Huntsville water levels will start to recede.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Residents are advised that properties in flooded areas using well water should assume the water is not safe to drink. Homeowners and property owners are responsible for monitoring their own wells.<\/strong>&nbsp; The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU), The Town of Huntsville\u2019s Emergency Control Group and Huntsville\u2019s Building Department are working together to ensure that residents have the resources they need to test their own well water. Well water sample kits and resources are available to pick up as of 1:00 pm April 19 at the Huntsville SMDHU office, 34 Chaffey Street, and at Town Hall, 37 Main Street East (second flood customer service desk) during regular business hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As water starts to recede, residents and businesses are reminded that sandbags are considered contaminated waste.&nbsp;<strong>Residents can drop-off used sandbags at Madill Yard (169 Madill Church Road, Huntsville), Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Updates as of April 19, 2023:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Public works crews are assessing Huntsville roads impacted by flooding and will plan to repair any damage as water levels start to recede. For road closure updates follow us on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/townofhuntsville\"><strong>&nbsp;Facebook&nbsp;<\/strong><\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/townhuntsville\"><strong>Twitter<\/strong><\/a>, or follow our&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.huntsville.ca\/Modules\/News\/en\"><strong>newsfeed<\/strong><\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Residents and businesses should continue to take precautions to protect property as flooding is occurring.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sandbags: Free sandbags and fill station behind the Canada Summit Centre (20 Park Drive) and Port Sydney Fire Hall (387 S Mary Lake Rd). There are limited numbers of pre-filled bags currently available.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Information on how to fill sand bags and how to build a sandbag dike can be found at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.huntsville.ca\/en\/home-property-and-planning\/emergency-information.aspx\">Huntsville.ca<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be cautious if traveling on Huntsville waterways due to the large amounts of debris floating in the system. Boat traffic currently risks causing damage to shorelines and to shoreline property with vessel wakes because of the high-water level.&nbsp;<strong>Lost property can be reported to the Huntsville O.P.P. either online at&nbsp;<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.opp.ca\/index.php?id=132\"><strong>opp.ca<\/strong><\/a><strong>&nbsp;or call 705-789-5551.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Please refrain from trying to view flooding locations and supervise children and pets closely in these areas.<\/strong>&nbsp;Keep access to flooded areas open for emergency responders.
