{"id":133182,"date":"2023-02-28T07:45:07","date_gmt":"2023-02-28T12:45:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/rwddev\/?p=133182"},"modified":"2023-02-28T07:57:36","modified_gmt":"2023-02-28T12:57:36","slug":"huntsville-to-get-six-ev-charging-stations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/huntsville-to-get-six-ev-charging-stations\/","title":{"rendered":"Huntsville to get six EV charging stations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>At its February 27 meeting, Huntsville council agreed to enter into a 12-year lease with Lakeland Solutions for six parking spaces at its High Street parking lot (behind Town Hall) for the creation of electric vehicle charging stations.<\/p>\n\n\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Councillors debated at length whether losing six additional parking spaces in an already congested parking lot made sense. Councillor Cory Clarke suggested that the parking lot at Muskoka Heritage Place might be a better place to put the stations but was told by staff that Lakeland Solutions, which is applying for a federal funding program to put the stations in, rejected that location noting the electrical infrastructure needed wasn&#8217;t there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Huntsville CAO Denise Corry told council that if EV owners are parking at the High Street parking lot while their vehicle charges, they may walk to the downtown, have lunch, and go shopping while they wait. She said the same may not be necessarily true for a charging station that is further removed from the downtown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Huntsville Mayor Nancy Alcock said she&#8217;s received several calls about the lack of infrastructure available for electric vehicle owners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Councillor Bob Stone wanted to know if the Town was going to get any revenue for the stations.
