{"id":132907,"date":"2023-02-24T14:56:11","date_gmt":"2023-02-24T19:56:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/rwddev\/?p=132907"},"modified":"2023-02-27T20:15:35","modified_gmt":"2023-02-28T01:15:35","slug":"coldest-night-of-the-year-walk-takes-place-saturday-feb-25","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/coldest-night-of-the-year-walk-takes-place-saturday-feb-25\/","title":{"rendered":"Coldest Night of the Year walk takes place Saturday, Feb. 25"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year&#8217;s Coldest Night of the Year&#8217;s theme is Gather for Good.<\/p>\n\n\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Gather family and friends, or go on your own, and join others on a walk to raise funds and awareness for people in need in our community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Coldest Night of the Year is an initiative across the country that seeks to raise funds for local charities that help those experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here in Huntsville, people will gather on Saturday, February 25th at 4 p.m. at the Table Food Bank located at 9 Hanes Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is going to be music, Muskoka Goat Away will be there, hot chocolate and soup will be served, there&#8217;ll be remarks from Executive Director Heather Cassie as well as the board. Event Director Paula Paunic will also lead participants through an energizing stretch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When walkers return there will be food and refreshments and they can sit around and mingle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While signup is preferred online at <a href=\"https:\/\/cnoy.org\/location\/huntsville\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">cnoy.org\/huntsville<\/span><\/a>, no one will be turned away, explained Paunic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This is the second year we&#8217;re doing it outdoors,&#8221; said Paunic who has also been in charge of the event for the past two years. &#8220;Before we were in the Active Living Centre and it&#8217;s warm and cozy but people who are homeless and hungry, they&#8217;re not warm and cozy so this is more real for us.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of Friday afternoon, about 130 walkers had registered and raised approximately $88,000 out of a goal of $100,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants can walk a 2-kilometre or a 5-kilometre route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Paunac said the funds will be used to purchase food needed at the Table Foodbank as well as helping with required capital improvements to the building.
