This is the second time the risk level has increased since it was launched in September 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are seeing a higher level of COVID-19 transmission in Simcoe Muskoka, which means there is a greater risk of getting sick with potential for severe illness,\u201d said Dr. Charles Gardner, SMDHU\u2019s medical officer of health. \u201cWe note this in the context of ongoing elevated transmission of influenza as well as respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Given this, we continue to encourage individuals to use more layers of protection, such as increasing frequency of mask use and maintaining physical distance in indoor public settings. Getting your&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.simcoemuskokahealth.org\/Topics\/COVID-19\/GettingVaccinated\/Individuals-aged-12\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bivalent COVID-19 vaccine booster<\/a>&nbsp;and your influenza vaccination is also strongly recommended and available across Simcoe Muskoka.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.simcoemuskokahealth.org\/Topics\/COVID-19\/COVID-19-Community-Risk-Level\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The COVID-19 Community Risk Level<\/span><\/a>, available on SMDHU\u2019s website, is based on five indicators (local percent positivity of PCR tests, confirmed cases, hospitalizations, institutional outbreaks, and wastewater signals) that are monitored weekly. Together, these indicators make up the current overall COVID-19 risk level in our community as one of the following levels: lower (caution), moderate, high, or very high. Each risk level is explained, and information is provided about\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.simcoemuskokahealth.org\/Topics\/COVID-19#45cf633c-1dbe-49fb-8ab6-3100b4bad04f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">personal<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.simcoemuskokahealth.org\/Topics\/COVID-19#7dd6dc3e-7c1f-44d9-9d15-d2809b9da1a1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">situational<\/a>\u00a0risks that individuals should consider and what actions they can take to protect themselves and others from spreading and getting severely ill from COVID-19.
