{"id":123255,"date":"2022-10-14T10:38:14","date_gmt":"2022-10-14T14:38:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/rwddev\/?p=123255"},"modified":"2022-10-14T11:57:21","modified_gmt":"2022-10-14T15:57:21","slug":"do-you-know-someone-who-needs-a-hearing-aid-but-cant-afford-one","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/do-you-know-someone-who-needs-a-hearing-aid-but-cant-afford-one\/","title":{"rendered":"Do you know someone who needs a hearing aid but can&#8217;t afford one?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an unusual move and for the second time in 2022, the Gift of Hearing program managed by Hear Well Be Well is accepting nominations for people who need hearing aids but are unable to get them because of financial constraints or other barriers.<\/p>\n\n\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNormally Gift of Hearing nominations are accepted once a year,\u201d explained Kathleen Tiede, Hear Well Be Well\u2019s co-CEO with her husband, John Tiede. \u201cThis year, with so many people still trying to get back on their feet after COVID shutdowns and with the inflation situation, we\u2019re excited to be able to deliver a second nomination period with the hopes of getting hearing aids to people in need in time for their holiday celebrations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through Hear Well Be Well\u2019s Gift of Hearing program, and with the support of Signia, one of the world\u2019s leading manufacturers of hearing aids, five people in Ontario will be accepted into the program to receive a free hearing test as well as their hearing aids, aftercare, and service, all at no cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSignia helps millions of people worldwide regain and benefit from the miracle of hearing,\u201d stated Brian Beatty, vice-president of marketing for WS Audiology Canada Inc. Signia is a WS Audiology brand. \u201cWith our goal of providing wonderful sound for all, we\u2019re excited to play a role in partnering with Hear Well Be Well in this endeavour to give back to the community to help those in need of hearing care!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnd as a family-owned and operated business, the health of our communities is important to us,\u201d added John Tiede. \u201cWe have a long history of giving back both locally and abroad, and the Gift of Hearing program has been part of that since 2013.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>John and Kathleen Tiede established the Gift of Hearing Program in 2013 to help those in need of better hearing. Since its inception, numerous families throughout Southwestern and Central Ontario have benefitted. The latest in hearing aid technology, all related services, and professional time are all donated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHearing is so incredibly important. And these kinds of programs are incredibly important for a community. It\u2019s important to look after each other,\u201d&nbsp;said Francis Richardson, former mayor of Meaford, ON, and a nominator in this year\u2019s spring Gift of Hearing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Michael Lindsay of Shelburne, ON, was a recipient in the spring Gift of Hearing program. He was nominated by his wife, who recognized his hearing loss was affecting his relationships with their children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI have four kids, three of them autistic, and I need to hear them,\u201d Lindsay explained. \u201cThis is going to change my life dramatically \u2013 being able to hear again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll be both a better husband and better father because I won\u2019t be so frustrated and I won\u2019t miss things,\u201d Lindsay added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In spring 2022, Gift of Hearing selected recipients from Meaford, Shelburne and London, ON. Each recipient had a different story and a different need. Even their hearing loss came from different impacts on their lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe had recipients with hearing loss caused by domestic violence, loud music, deformed cochlea from birth, as well as regular life wear and tear,\u201d noted Kathleen Tiede. \u201cThe nomination review committee has a really hard job selecting recipients from the nominations we receive.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nominations are accepted through GiftofHearing.ca or in-person at all 13 clinic locations in Ontario. Both individuals and organizations can nominate someone experiencing hearing loss. Nominees must be at least 19 years of age and able to attend one of the clinic locations in-person for testing, fitting, and care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHearing loss can put a real strain on the person experiencing it and it also impacts their relationships with others. It can even affect employment or the chance of advancement at work,\u201d John Tiede explained. \u201cNot being able to hear conversations can be very isolating. Constantly asking people to repeat themselves or having the TV up so loud others in the room flinch affects everyone.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nominations for the Gift of Hearing program will be accepted through November 15 at&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.giftofhearing.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">www.giftofhearing.ca<\/span><\/a>.&nbsp; Selected finalists will be contacted in early December to arrange a hearing test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About Hear Well Be Well<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hear Well Be Well is a family-run business with 13 locations in Ontario.
