{"id":122000,"date":"2022-09-24T11:31:56","date_gmt":"2022-09-24T15:31:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/rwddev\/?p=122000"},"modified":"2022-09-24T11:32:41","modified_gmt":"2022-09-24T15:32:41","slug":"health-unit-launches-weekly-update-on-local-covid-19-community-risk-level","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/health-unit-launches-weekly-update-on-local-covid-19-community-risk-level\/","title":{"rendered":"Health unit launches weekly update on local COVID-19 Community Risk Level"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) has developed a new way to communicate the current\u00a0level of risk of COVID-19 in our communities and how individuals can best protect themselves and others from transmission and severe illness due to COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.simcoemuskokahealth.org\/Topics\/COVID-19\/COVID-19-Community-Risk-Level\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The COVID-19 Community Risk Level<\/span><\/a>, available on SMDHU\u2019s website, is based on five indicators (percent positivity of PCR tests, local cases, hospitalizations, institutional outbreaks, and wastewater surveillance) that are monitored weekly. Together, these indicators make up the current overall COVID-19 risk level in our community as one of the following levels: lower, moderate, high, or very high. Each risk level is explained, and guidance is provided about assessing&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.simcoemuskokahealth.org\/Topics\/COVID-19#45cf633c-1dbe-49fb-8ab6-3100b4bad04f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">personal<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.simcoemuskokahealth.org\/Topics\/COVID-19#7dd6dc3e-7c1f-44d9-9d15-d2809b9da1a1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">situational<\/a>&nbsp;risks and what actions individuals can take to protect themselves and others from spreading and getting severely ill from COVID-19.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs the virus continues to spread in our communities, we encourage everyone to be aware of the community risk level and to assess their own personal circumstances that could put them at higher risk, and to take necessary precautions to protect themselves and others against COVID-19,\u201d said Dr. Charles Gardner, SMDHU\u2019s medical officer of health. \u201cThe more layers of protection you take against COVID-19, the more your personal risk can decrease.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Layers of protection include simple, yet crucial actions, individuals can take to help stop the spread of COVID-19, such as staying home if you have symptoms, wearing a face mask based on your assessment of risk or when required, and staying up to date with your COVID-19 vaccinations. Individuals are encouraged to add more protective actions as personal, situational and community risk increases.
