{"id":116772,"date":"2022-07-18T07:27:13","date_gmt":"2022-07-18T11:27:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/huntsville.dopperonline.ca\/?p=116772"},"modified":"2022-07-18T08:25:27","modified_gmt":"2022-07-18T12:25:27","slug":"banana-split-home-run","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/banana-split-home-run\/","title":{"rendered":"Banana split home run"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hitting a home run is an accomplishment many baseball players dream of but a mere few ever achieve. <\/p>\n\n\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Seventeen-year-old Charlie Maslin of Huntsville is still riding the high of this rare achievement after he hit an over-the-fence home run at the first game of the 2022 season on July 4 at Kerr Park in Bracebridge.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maslin plays for the Muskoka Hornets Baseball Association, which is a competitive baseball league created in 2009 and operated by a ten-person volunteer Board of Directors and encompasses players from the entire Muskoka region.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shelley Westgarth, the owner of Belly Ice Cream, where Maslin works for the summers, gifted Maslin a banana split for his home run as a symbol of his once-in-a-lifetime feat.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Westgarth, whose son is also on the Muskoka Hornets, has been a huge supporter of the team for years and has always had the stipulation that anyone that gets a home run will receive a banana split.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI started offering this when they were in house league, when they were eight,\u201d Westgarth says. \u201cWhenever there was a big hitter and I thought maybe we were getting close [to a home run], I would yell \u2018banana split!\u2019\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maslin has played for the Muskoka Hornets every season\u2014which lasts from mid-April to mid-August\u2014since he was eight years old. He said this will be his last season playing baseball before he goes off to other endeavours. Maslin\u2019s first and only home run is a fitting ending to his baseball career.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was just a relief, really,\u201d Maslin says. \u201cI\u2019ve always wanted to hit a home run. So I just thought \u2018I\u2019m okay, I can quit now.\u2019 It\u2019s not gonna get much better than that.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Muskoka Hornets&#8217; home games are located in Bracebridge and away games include locations such as Markham, Vaughn, London, and Toronto.
