{"id":109607,"date":"2022-02-28T11:40:02","date_gmt":"2022-02-28T16:40:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/huntsville.dopperonline.ca\/?p=109607"},"modified":"2022-02-28T11:40:03","modified_gmt":"2022-02-28T16:40:03","slug":"aitchison-questions-just-how-far-putin-will-go","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/aitchison-questions-just-how-far-putin-will-go\/","title":{"rendered":"Aitchison questions just how far Putin will go"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When reached by Doppler regarding Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine, Parry Sound-Muskoka MP Scott Aitchison described Russian President Vladimir Putin as \u201cobviously a pretty disappointing character fanning the flames of division.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Aitchison questioned Putin\u2019s ultimate goal. \u201cWhat appeases that man? I\u2019m not sure anything less than the reconstitution of the former Soviet Union makes him happy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said claims by Putin that Ukraine has been committing human rights abuses against Russian-speaking separatists in eastern Ukraine have not been proven. \u201cI don\u2019t know if there\u2019s any truth to any of that, actually&#8230; You know I think he\u2019s fanning the flames of that and hanging his hat on the dissenting voices of a minority and using that as a prelude to expanding Russia\u2019s sphere of influence,\u201d said Aitchison of rebel forces in the southeastern part of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile in Canada, the Liberals and Conservatives seem united in their swift condemnation of Russian aggression against Ukraine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe [the Conservative Party]  did disagree with the Liberals in terms of what we were going to send for assistance. I know that the government changed their mind and did in fact send weapons and actual tools of war as opposed to just good advice,\u201d he said. \u201cI think that now, I think that it\u2019s probably wise for everyone to try and come together and make sure that we\u2019re speaking as one voice, not just as Canadians, but also as an alliance with our NATO partners and the G7 and all the various different international organizations that we\u2019re a part of. You know, we need to be united against this Russian aggression and we need to do everything we can to stop it without escalating an armed conflict.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In terms of financial repercussions through sanctions and other related means, Aitchison said he\u2019s not sure how effective that is. \u201cI sometimes wonder if it\u2019s too little, too late, especially since they\u2019ve been amassing equipment and troops on the border for some time now,\u201d said Aitchison, who also expressed concern with the extent of China\u2019s involvement in support of Russia. \u201cChina is a superpower and so, you know, if you have a Chinese-Russian partnership in conflict\u2026 with the Western world, I mean, that\u2019s a pretty significant situation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When asked whether Canada should put boots on the ground in Ukraine, Aitchison said: \u201cThat\u2019s a bit above my pay grade. I think those kinds of decisions are made by people who have an awful lot more information than I do.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Conspiracy theories about the conflict have started to surface regarding its timing and orchestration. \u201cI just think that those people need to take a look and see just how effectively governments organize anything and really question themselves whether they think that governments can orchestrate such a massive scale of hoodwinking\u2026 the world. That\u2019s ridiculous. I mean, honestly, really?
