Forget about mommy kissing Santa Claus. What happens when world-class troublemaker The Grinch makes a move on Mrs. Claus?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The green grouch swooped in during the Snow Globe Santa event at the Eclipse “Walk with Light” show on Sunday night to plant a smooch on the big guy’s spouse. The Grinch’s heart had already grown three sizes by that night, he insists, which may have contributed to Mrs. Claus’s willingness to share in some festive fun. <\/p>\n\n\n

While The Grinch spent most of that night dancing and posing for pics\u2014photobombing the ones he wasn’t invited to be in\u2014in previous appearances he was in true heart-three-sizes-too-small mode, throwing onions at Eclipse staff on the naughty list. He did hand out treats to try to earn the favour of visitors to the attraction, though. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Real-life marrieds James and Rachel Hunt were playing The Grinch and Mrs. Claus that night, the final night of Snow Globe Santa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hunts were approached by Kelly Haywood, executive director at the Huntsville Lake of Bays Chamber of Commerce, to play the roles. “Rachel as Mrs. Claus makes a lot of sense,” said James of his Christmas-loving wife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kids loved the novelty of having their photo taken with The Grinch. “I don’t know, maybe there’s some competition for Christmas going on there,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Snow Globe Santa was a “safe and well-executed partnership with Muskoka Heritage Place” in a year when the traditional Portage Flyer Christmas event wasn’t possible, said Haywood. “It was such a special opportunity to bring Santa, and special appearances from Mrs. Claus and The Grinch, to the community.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Snow Globe Santa was just one of many entertainment options planned for the seasonal attraction, with many more to come during its run through until spring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next up, on Dec. 22 and 23 is an “Ode to the Winter Solstice”, a collection of songs and poetry celebrating the season and winter solstice presented by The Monarch Performing Arts Studio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On most Fridays and Saturdays at Eclipse there’s live entertainment, Beavertails and poutine from Beavertails Huntsville, and beverages (including hot, cold, alcoholic and not) from Canvas Brewing Co.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There will be horse and sleigh rides on Dec. 30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While there are holiday events happening, it’s not a holiday light show, noted Haywood. “It’s a cerebral, artistic installation that will delight all of your senses.” It’s an interactive sound-to-light experience focused on our relationship with time and the seasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eclipse includes an installation on Town Hall that features cascading lights which follow the naturally occurring vines on the building and lead up to a sun dial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eclipse will also be part of Nuit Blanche North, which is moving to a special winter date on Feb. 12, 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Note that Eclipse “Walk with Light” will be closed on Dec. 24, 25, and 31.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The attraction is at Muskoka Heritage Place. Tickets are available online for $5 per person plus HST; children under 12 are admitted for free. Enter at the Rotary Train Station at 100 Forbes Hill Drive.<\/p>\n\n\n
