{"id":106559,"date":"2021-12-27T12:54:22","date_gmt":"2021-12-27T17:54:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/huntsville.dopperonline.ca\/?p=106559"},"modified":"2021-12-27T12:56:32","modified_gmt":"2021-12-27T17:56:32","slug":"huntsville-polar-bear-dip-postponed-until-later-in-the-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/huntsville-polar-bear-dip-postponed-until-later-in-the-season\/","title":{"rendered":"Huntsville Polar Bear Dip postponed until later in the season"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Due to uncooperative weather and shifting pandemic restrictions, Huntsville&#8217;s annual Polar Bear Dip has been postponed until sometime in February, say organizers. <\/p>\n\n\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The ninth annual Huntsville Polar Bear Dip was held on Jan. 1, 2020 at the waterfront at Hidden Valley Resort. It was cancelled in 2021 and organizers had hoped that both the weather and the pandemic would cooperate for 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rather than cancel the event outright, they&#8217;ve decided to wait for more favourable conditions on both fronts and run the event\u2014which typically sees several dozen dippers brave the frigid waters of Peninsula Lake\u2014later in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The event will definitely happen,&#8221; says organizer Markus Latzel. &#8220;Ice conditions do not allow us to have the dip on [Jan. 1]. The ice will be too thin to stand on it but too thick to just perform a &#8216;run-in&#8217;.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Potential February dates for the rescheduled event are either Feb. 5 or Feb. 20, depending on COVID restrictions at that time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;With the later date, dippers will be able to extend their fundraising as well,&#8221; noted Latzel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the last several years, the event has supported Community Living Huntsville, which promotes inclusion and supports people with a developmental disability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Advance registration is not required\u2014you simply show up on the event date ready to dip\u2014but participants are encouraged to start fundraising now.
