{"id":106493,"date":"2021-12-09T12:52:07","date_gmt":"2021-12-09T17:52:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/huntsville.dopperonline.ca\/?p=106493"},"modified":"2021-12-09T12:52:08","modified_gmt":"2021-12-09T17:52:08","slug":"opp-reminds-motorists-to-stop-for-school-buses-especially-on-hwy-60","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/opp-reminds-motorists-to-stop-for-school-buses-especially-on-hwy-60\/","title":{"rendered":"OPP reminds motorists to stop for school buses, especially on Hwy 60"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>A message from Huntsville OPP<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the school year well under way and the holiday season just around the corner, there is no more important time than now for the Huntsville Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to urge drivers to slow down and to watch for school buses in an effort to keep our children safe.   <\/p>\n\n\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The OPP would like to take this time to remind motorists to pay close attention when meeting or following a school bus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Motorists in both directions must stop when approaching a stopped school bus with its stop sign extended and red lights activated and cannot start moving until the red lights have stopped flashing, the stop sign has been retracted and the bus has started to move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Officers from the Huntsville Detachment have been and will continue to conduct traffic enforcement in school zones and school bus pick up and drop off areas to ensure the safety of our community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Highway 60 continues to be an area of concern in regards to vehicles passing school buses that have its red lights activated and stop sign extended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fines for not stopping:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 First offence $400 to $2,000 and six demerit points<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Each following offence, $1,000 to $4,000, six demerit points and possible jail time, (up to six months)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To report motorists who fail to stop for school buses call 1-888-310-1122 or 9-1-1 in an emergency. Note the driver and vehicle description, licence plate and direction of travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Patience on the part of drivers is encouraged as many young children will be excited due to the upcoming holidays.
