{"id":103316,"date":"2021-09-28T09:51:21","date_gmt":"2021-09-28T13:51:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/huntsville.dopperonline.ca\/?p=103316"},"modified":"2021-09-28T09:51:21","modified_gmt":"2021-09-28T13:51:21","slug":"huntsville-mayor-thanks-doughty-and-cockwell-families-for-their-donation-of-land-for-fairvern","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/huntsville-mayor-thanks-doughty-and-cockwell-families-for-their-donation-of-land-for-fairvern\/","title":{"rendered":"Huntsville mayor thanks Doughty and Cockwell families for their donation of land for Fairvern"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While all discussions regarding what went wrong with the initial plan to relocate a new Fairvern Nursing Home to lands near the Huntsville hospital have been held in closed session, Huntsville CAO Denise Corry gave council an update on the matter at its September 27 meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>She said all contributions made by the home as well as the Town of Huntsville for related studies and a road construction leading to the former site offered by local businessperson Pat Dub\u00e9 are in the process of being returned. As per Corry\u2019s report, those funds amount to an estimated $750,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Corry told council the scope of the project increased when the facility was granted 160 beds by the Province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe scope of the project obviously increased to our benefit, 160 beds is a great addition to the community, but it was more or less deemed that the property wasn\u2019t conducive to the construction of a building of that size,\u201d said Corry, adding that there were many discussions with Dub\u00e9 to see if another location could be found, but that did not materialize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the meantime, former Huntsville Mayor Claude Doughty and his business partner have donated a five-acre property on Centre Street as part of the planned Paisley Park development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new home will be managed by the District of Muskoka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI just wanted to publicly thank both the Cockwell and Doughty families for this very generous donation. We now have five acres for our new state-of-the-art Fairvern right in our urban centre,&#8221; said Terziano. &#8220;It\u2019s going to be the best Fairvern\u2026 because we\u2019re coming in on the backs of COVID and everything\u2019s going to be done right. I'll never really be a local - I still react to blackflies and mosquito bites - but Huntsville is the longest I\u2019ve ever lived anywhere and when your parents are gypsies you live in a lot of places. That's because I love this community. I love the wide open spaces, ancient rocks, lakes and forests. I also love the buzz of Huntsville's core and, well, the wi-fi. I'm a news and chocolate junkie.
