{"id":102741,"date":"2021-09-09T14:32:53","date_gmt":"2021-09-09T18:32:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/huntsville.dopperonline.ca\/?p=102741"},"modified":"2021-09-09T14:46:13","modified_gmt":"2021-09-09T18:46:13","slug":"the-mending-circle-project-exhibit-opens-in-huntsville-sept-16","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/the-mending-circle-project-exhibit-opens-in-huntsville-sept-16\/","title":{"rendered":"The Mending Circle Project exhibit opens in Huntsville Sept. 16"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Submitted by Huntsville Festival of the Arts<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Huntsville Festival of the Arts (HfA) is pleased to present The Mending Circle Project, a free exhibit of original art inspired by the theme of \u201cmending\u201d, running September 16-October 3 at the HfA Studio in downtown Huntsville.<\/p>\n\n\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In the spring of 2020, Huntsville-based artist Beverley Hawksley reached out, looking for a group to join her in The Mending Circle Project. Since September 2020, six makers\u2014Beth Ward, Elspeth Wood, Marilyn Daniels, Vicky Mathies, Vera Samarkina, and Beverley\u2014have been meeting online to explore the concept of mending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This \u201ccircle\u201d resulted in an incredibly successful art show that&nbsp;premiered at the Waterford Old Town Hall this summer, and will now be presented in Huntsville&nbsp;at the HfA Studio (58 Main Street East, Unit 2 &#8211; entrance across from River Mill Park) from September 16 to October 3. The HfA Studio is open Thursdays and Fridays from 12-6 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission to the exhibit is free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The art exhibit features original creations by the six artists in response to the theme of mending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The artists note, \u201cSince mending can mean many things and its definition offers layers of interpretation\u2014to mend can mean to restore, repair, renew, amend, heal, recover, to grow back together, to rebuild\u2014it can evoke a variety of responses.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They go on to say, \u201cNo matter where we were from in the world, we had childhood memories of learning to keep our clothing in good repair, to mend so that these items lasted; we also discussed how working with our hands facilitated all these things, and simultaneously gave us contemplative time and space to consider the more complex ways mending moved through us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Community members, visitors and local students will have the chance to participate in the exhibit and offer their own responses to the question \u201cwhat does mending mean to you?\u201d Throughout the exhibit, a number of activities are being planned including discussions and art-making activities (details to be announced soon).
